Edwin Washington Edwards was an American politician who was his U.S. Representative as well as Governor for Louisiana for an entire four terms. His net worth as of the date of his death was estimated at $10 million.
Edwards is born on the 7th of August 1927 at Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. He envisioned becoming a preacher when he was an adult and was even preached at the Church of the Nazarene.
He also served in World War 2 for the U.S. Navy Air Corps. Following his return after the war, Edwards graduated from the Louisiana State University Law Center following which he began an attorney’s career.
Edwards was married for the first time in 1949 to Elaine Schwartzenburg with whom he had four children. She also served as an acting U.S. senator after being named by Edwards. The couple would get divorced in 1989, after 40 years of being together.
He then got married Candy Picou in 1994. Then, Edwards going to prison affected their relationship, and they ended up divorced in 2004. His third marriage was the most well-known since he got married to Trina Grimes, who was his age of 50. They even appeared on the reality TV show The Governor’s Wife.
Edwards passed away on the 12th of July 2021 aged 93, due to respiratory issues.

Edwards was a politician who decided to run during the year 1954 when he ran for election to his local Crowley City Council. He decided to be a member of the Democratic Party. After many years of active participation in 1964, Edwards won his seat in the Louisiana State Senate beating Bill Cleveland who was thought to be a shock at the time.
Edwards served for two years as a floor leader, following which he was appointed to the United States House of Representatives which represented Louisiana’s 7th congressional district.
Edwards was in the position from 1965 to 1972. Edwards was later governor of Louisiana and was able to have two terms in succession.
In the time he was governor Edwards became a lively politician, who was well-known for his attire and delivering one-liners that his public liked. Through the years his popularity as a governor grew across the U.S.
Edwards continued to serve for two more terms as governor. The third term began in 1984. But his tenure began to be marred by controversy related to corruption.
In 1997, he along with an ex-congressman were caught in a tape where Edwards offered around $20,000 for the Congressman.
The situation would only get worse throughout the years when Edwards was found guilty of taking the sum of $845,000 from an entrepreneur who wanted to establish the jail for juveniles in La Salle Parish.
He was found guilty of an amount of 26 charges of which he was found guilty of 17 counts due to which he was sentenced to serve a minimum of 10 years in prison. Edwards was sentenced to eight years in prison, with the sentence coming to an end on the 6th of July, 2011.
