Jim Jones is an American rapper. He also serves as a record executive. Jones is an original member of the hip-hop collective, The Diplomats. Along with his long-time friend and Harlem-bred rapper Cameron, he is the co-CEO at Diplomat Records. Jones is an internationally recognized music video director under the name CAPO.
Jim Jones’s Early Years
Jim Jones was born Joseph Guillermo Jones, II, in The Bronx (New York) on July 15, 1976. He was one of three children of Nancy Jones and Joseph Guillermo Jones II. His maternal grandmother raised him in Harlem.
Jones is the brother of Precious and Keisha, his two sisters. Jones attended a Catholic school in his hometown and used to skip school to go to the local train station. He was raised with Freekey Zekey, a fellow rapper.
Jones was a troubled child and was caught stealing from a shop. This led to his expulsion from school. At six years of age, Jones met Dame Dash. She was a prominent hip-hop artist and one of the co-founders at Roc-A-Fella Records.

He began his career as a rapper’s hype man and later joined The Diplomats’ hip-hop group. In 2003 and 2004, The Diplomats issued two albums. Their debut album Diplomatic Immunity, certified Gold, reached #1 on the U.S. R&B charts and #8 on Billboard 200.
In 2004, Jones released On My Way To Church, his debut solo studio album. His second album, Harlem: Diary Of A Summer, was released in 2005. He was also offered an executive position at Entertainment One Music.

Jones released The Rooftop in 2009 with D.J. Webstar. He starred with Chrissy Lampkin in Chrissy & Mr. Jones from 2012 to 2013.
He founded ByrdGang Records and ByrdGang Records and released M.O.B. The album reached #29 on Billboard 200’s 2008 chart. Jones’ sixth album, El Capo, was released in May 2019. Jones was made part-owner of Richmond Roughriders in December 2017.
